Helping students succeed through academic and pastoral intervention support

26 February 2025

Over recent years, the learning gap has continued to widen, in particular for vulnerable learners Schools continue to play a crucial role in helping them develop both academically and socially. This makes intervention more important than ever.

Helping students succeed through academic and pastoral intervention support

The importance of intervention

Many students are struggling within education settings and schools are under increasing pressure to provide a range of intervention support. Creating a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment improves engagement, confidence, and attainment. Every student is unique. Personalised intervention that is tailored to each student’s needs can open up their engagement to learning.

The benefits of tuition

Research carried out by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) in 2021 found that 1:1 and small group tuition can accelerate and progress learning on average by up to four months for primary and two months for secondary students. The Department for Education (DfE) commissioned an independent Ofsted review to identify how well tuition has helped pupils improve and progress in their learning. Phase 1 findings covered 63 school visits and revealed that school leaders, staff, and pupils were positive about tuition. Given these proven benefits, schools and local authorities seek reliable intervention providers. Understanding this need, Holden Knight Education has developed Holden Knight Intervention Services (HKIS). HKIS is a dedicated intervention provision to partner with and support schools, local authorities, and students.
